- BTS Makes History with Commemorative Stamps Celebrating 10th Anniversary 목차
South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and Korea Post announced on May 7th that they will release a set of commemorative stamps to celebrate the 10th anniversary of global K-pop sensation, BTS. The collection will be issued on June 13th, with a total of 1.5 million stamps across 10 designs, making this the first time a living person other than a president has been honored with a commemorative stamp.
The regulations usually do not allow for the depiction of individuals in postal designs, except for a few exceptions like inaugurated presidents. In this case, the BTS commemorative stamps will feature album covers to comply with the rules, while the commemorative stamp packet (250,000 copies) will include both a stamp and a portrait of the group members.
The stamps were first proposed to Hive, BTS's agency, as the Korea Post recognized the significant role the group has played in enhancing national prestige and promoting public interest. The band's achievements include being the first Korean act to perform solo at major American music award ceremonies, such as the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards.
The commemorative stamps will showcase images from BTS's albums, including '2 COOL 4 SKOOL', 'Skool Luv Affair', 'In the Mood for Love pt.1', 'WINGS', 'YOU NEVER WALK ALONE', 'LOVE YOURSELF 轉 Tear', 'MAP OF THE SOUL: 7', 'Dynamite', 'Butter', and 'Proof'. Each stamp will display the group's progression to stardom through an asymmetric polygon design, symbolizing a dazzling jewel.
Korea Post will hold a pre-sale service for the commemorative stamps on the Internet Post Office (www.epost.go.kr) from May 22nd to 25th. Fans must register for pre-purchase by May 21st. International fans can participate in an online pre-sale service (www.koreastamp.or.kr) starting June 1st. The commemorative stamps will be priced at 7,770 won for the set of 10 and 20,000 won for the commemorative stamp packet, with sales at general post offices nationwide beginning on June 13th.
Son Seung-hyun, head of Korea Post, expressed the significance of this collaboration, stating, "It is very meaningful to issue commemorative stamps together with BTS, which is promoting K-pop worldwide."
