- New Yeouido Dock to Boost Seoul's Water Tourism Industry 목차
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced plans to construct a new dock in Yeouido Hangang Park as part of Mayor Oh Se-hoon's 'Great Han River Project.' The dock, which will be completed by next year, is designed to accommodate three 1,000-ton cruise ships simultaneously. It will also feature a 6-meter-wide boarding platform and various passenger facilities such as waiting rooms and resting areas.
The city has partnered with Hyundai Marine Leisure, an experienced Ara Waterway cruise operator, to run 150 regular routes between the Han River and Ara Waterway each year. The basic route will connect Yeouido Wharf, Ara Gimpo Passenger Terminal, and Ara Line Passenger Terminal.
The new dock aims to provide Seoul residents and tourists with unique water and land tourism experiences. For instance, visitors can enjoy a morning cruise on the Han River with onboard performances, followed by an afternoon tour of the West Sea via bus, bicycle, or personal transporters.
To promote the dock's usage, it will be open for other shipping companies to freely moor and dock their vessels. The city will also provide free boarding opportunities for 2,000 socially disadvantaged individuals and support educational programs for students.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is also accelerating the Seoul Port development project, aiming to complete domestic port functions by 2026 and introduce international facilities like customs, immigration, and quarantine by 2028. The city believes that the new port will boost tourism and create new opportunities for cruise tours departing from the Han River.
