- A Candid Conversation with South Korean Star IU on Her Film Debut and Future Plans 목차
South Korean singer and actress IU, born Lee Jieun, is celebrating 15 years in the industry and is now more recognized by her stage name than her real name. Known as one of the best female artists in Korea, her talents include singing, songwriting, and acting. On April 20th, we met with IU at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, to discuss her upcoming first commercial film, "Dream."
Having already walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in "Broker," IU seemed more relaxed than nervous about her new film. In "Dream," directed by Lee Byung-hun, IU plays the character Lee So-min, a broadcasting producer who creates a documentary about the Homeless World Cup. She shared her thoughts on creating a backstory for her character and enjoyed the challenge of playing someone with no apparent passion.
Despite being in her 30s, IU is still exploring what she wants to achieve in this new phase of her life. She has been focusing on acting, expressing a desire to be produced by someone else in her 30s, as opposed to producing her own music like she did in her 20s.
IU finds harmony in her dual roles as a singer and an actress, with each providing stability to the other. She is also active on YouTube and is currently filming a drama. Although her schedule is busy, she finds joy and recharges through her work.
In the future, IU hopes to play a "less good person" as an acting challenge, acknowledging that younger fans may be shocked by such a departure from her usual roles. She has decided to use only her stage name, IU, as an actor, reflecting her belief that both her singing and acting careers are intertwined.
As IU continues to grow as an artist, her journey is marked by joy, passion, and an eagerness to explore new challenges in her career.
