- LG Household & Health Care Unveils Cosmetic Containers Made from 100% Waste Plastic 목차
LG Household & Health Care announced on the 17th that they have successfully developed eco-friendly cosmetic containers made from 100% waste plastic pyrolysis oil, a first in the domestic cosmetics industry. The Clean Beauty brand 'Beyond' will debut these containers with their best-selling products 'Angel Aqua Soothing Moisture Cream' and 'Angel Aqua Moisture Barrier Cream'. After evaluating the strength and safety of the pyrolysis oil containers, mass production is planned to begin in January of next year.
Currently, some PET bottles are recycled into 'Chemically Recycled PET (CR-PET)' and used for water bottles. However, this is the first time a cosmetic product is being sold in a container made from 100% waste plastic pyrolysis oil.
Waste plastic pyrolysis oil is made by heating hard-to-recycle plastic waste such as vinyl and composite materials in an oxygen-free environment at temperatures between 300-500℃. Reusing waste plastic as raw material without incineration greatly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, replacing plastic raw materials with pyrolysis oil can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly half.
LG Household & Health Care plans to continuously increase the number of eco-friendly container products as part of their ESG management activities, actively participating in the new government's national agenda for 'Completing the Circular Economy through Recycling'.
To achieve this, LG Household & Health Care, Hyundai Chemical, and Lotte Chemical are joining hands. Hyundai Chemical will introduce waste plastic pyrolysis oil as raw material in its existing refining process to manufacture eco-friendly plastic, while Lotte Chemical will develop and optimize eco-friendly plastic products. LG Household & Health Care will then mass-produce cosmetic containers using these plastics.
The refining and plastic manufacturing process has also obtained the global eco-friendly material certification 'ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification PLUS)'.
An ESG official from LG Household & Health Care said, "As a leading ESG company, LG Household & Health Care will focus on developing and securing more eco-friendly materials," and added, "We will make various efforts to create a low-carbon management environment and achieve actual carbon emission reduction, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050." In the long term, LG Household & Health Care plans to establish a complete plastic circulation structure from raw material sourcing to container production, waste disposal, and recycling.
