- Jeonju International Film Festival Returns with 24th Edition and High Expectations 목차
The 24th Jeonju International Film Festival, a prestigious event for filmmakers, is set to open on April 27th with a grand ceremony at Moakdang, Korea Sound Culture Center in Jeonju. Actors Jin Goo and Gong Seung Yeon will host the event, which commences at 6:30 pm.
The opening ceremony will feature an array of events, including a red carpet guest entry, performances by the World Taekwondo Federation demonstration team, and an opening declaration by Organizing Committee Chairman Woo Beom-ki. Co-executive directors Min Seong-wook and Jung Joon-ho will deliver welcoming remarks. The ceremony will also introduce 'J Special: Programmer of the Year' and the judges for each competition section.
The festival will begin with the screening of the opening film, 'Tori and Lokita,' directed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne. The film tells the story of a young boy and an adolescent girl, both marginalized immigrants in a Belgian city. Director Dardenne's first visit to Korea through the Jeonju International Film Festival has generated significant interest.
Running for ten days from April 27th to May 6th, the festival will showcase 247 films from 42 countries along Jeonju Film Street. 38 Korean short films will also be available for online viewing. The rapid sale of 75% of the 48,000 seats available online on the first day of reservations (April 12th) indicates high anticipation for this year's festival, surpassing the 26,000 seats sold on the same day in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The closing ceremony for the 24th Jeonju International Film Festival is scheduled for May 6th at 6:30 pm at the Chonbuk National University Samsung Cultural Center, with actors Kang Gil-woo and Lee Sang-hee as moderators. The Kim Sa-wol band will provide a rich and lively closing performance, wrapping up this year's highly anticipated event.
